Competition Aims

The Inner West Built Environment Awards 2019 - Sustainable Design Award celebrates sustainable design practices in the Inner West local government area. Large or small, private or public; the judges will look for thoughtful and innovative outcomes.


Entry Criteria

-       Design works must be within the Inner West Council local government area, with all design works completed within the 5 years preceding the date of applications opening.

-       Eligible design works would be described as having positive sustainability outcomes. These could include: ecosystem benefits, reduced carbon footprint, improved air and water quality, resource conservation and reduced waste.

-       Access to the property will be required on Saturday 30 March 2019 and the architect/designer responsible for the project should be available to brief the judges.

-       Images of the property nominated must be between 4MB and 15MB

-       Images must be received in this application within the dates specified for entry.

-       Entries close on Sunday 3 March 2019 at 11.59pm


Inner West Built Environment Awards 2019 Event

The finalists will be exhibited and the winner announced on Saturday 4 May 2019 from 2pm - 4pm at the Sydney College of the Arts. An online exhibition of all finalists will be on the Council website for the following 12 months.



A judging panel may consist of up to three people and will comprise of:

  • an owner/designer of the winning property from a previous year
  • a sustainable architecture
  • a sustainable building specialist



Inner West Council reserves the right to:

1. Withhold any entry whose content is considered inappropriate.

2. Retain, reproduce and/or publish entries, including images for future permanent exhibition, archival and promotional purposes by Council, ensuring credit to the authors.
