Introduction

Overview

Inner West Council is launching its inaugural choral festival, Sing Out, at White Bay Power Station in August 2026.

The Inner West is home to more artists and people employed in the creative industries than anywhere else in NSW. Inner West Council has a demonstrated commitment to supporting our local creative community, including creating opportunities to participate in arts and culture and promoting the Inner West as a leading destination for live music and performance.

The program is open to choirs of all sizes and levels of experience. looking to present existing performance works within an iconic heritage venue.

12pm-6pm

Choirs from all levels of practice are invited to propose a performance of an existing work, up to a maximum of 30 minutes running time. 

Applicants are encouraged to consider how the unique spatial, architectural and acoustic qualities of the building can support the presentation of their work. Both site-responsive and stage-based choral presentations are possible as part of this event.

Applications open: Wednesday 6 May 2026 9:00am
Closing date: Wednesday 27 May 2026, 11:59pm

Festival Aims

Applicants are encouraged to consider how the unique spatial, architectural and acoustic qualities of the building can support the presentation of their work. Both site-responsive and stage-based choral presentations are possible as part of this event.

Aims

  1. Showcase the depth and diversity of choral practice in the Inner West
  2. Activate White Bay Power Station through choral performance
  3. Amplify innovative approaches to presentation
  4. Curate a dynamic and varied audience experience

 

Assessment Criteria

Expressions of Interest will be assessed by a panel of creative industry members including Inner West Council staff, as well as independent practitioners.  

Projects will be assessed against the following criteria:  

  • Artistic merit and quality of the proposed work 
  • Response to the site and alignment with festival aims 
  • Capacity to deliver the performance 
  • Feasibility of the proposal 


Applicants will be asked to select one or more of the performance locations with their proposal, please see the accompanying 
performance locations document provided in the applicant pack.

We strongly recommend visiting the site or taking a virtual tour before selecting your locations.
 

 

Biennale of Sydney is currently running in the venue, free to attend and open: 

Tuesday – Sunday, 10am – 5pm until 14 June 2026.
