Audley St and Fisher St, Petersham

Purpose: Bairro Português celebrates the Portuguese cultural heritage of Petersham through a vibrant street festival featuring traditional and contemporary food and entertainment, encouraging local and cultural connection.

 

THIS APPLICATION IS TO BE THE SPONSOR - BAR OPERATIONS FOR BAIRRO PORTUGUES - PETERSHAM FESTIVAL

Bairro Português celebrates the historic Portuguese culture of Petersham, showcasing a diverse program of entertainment and activity. The streets come alive with a party atmosphere featuring Portuguese dancing and music, plus local artists and talent. Stalls lining the streets will serve delicious Portuguese cuisine and showcase local Petersham businesses.

Bairro Português has historically attracted more than 20,000 attendees from the local area plus Portuguese community across greater Sydney. This much-loved annual event will remain as an evening event in 2026 & 2027, continuing to invigorate the program and attendances. 

Inner West Council is seeking applications from suitable qualified bar operators to be the exclusive sponsor and licensee for two years: Bairro Português 2026 & 2027.

The cost of Sponsorship - Bar Operations for this event is $6,000 ex GST per year.

Please read all the information in this application carefully. Please note, participation in previous events does not guarantee an offer as a vendor.

Please note, at the end of the form you will be asked to attach:

  1. Copy of your Public Liability Certificate of Currency; 
  2. Copy of your Food Safety Supervisor Certificate.
  3. A fully disclosed product list and photos of your stall set-up and products.

Deadline: Applications close 11:59pm on Sunday 18th January 2026.

Selection Criteria

Bairro Português - Petersham Festival aims to champion local suppliers in the Inner West as well as:

  • Businesses whose offerings align with Council's Community Strategic Plan;
  • Local businesses who support the local community year round

The Licensee must also satisfy the following criteria

  • Must demonstrate a strong connection to Petersham, the Portuguese diaspora and the Inner West Council Local Government Area;
  • Must be able to supply a menu of exclusively Portuguese beer, wine, and/or sangria;
  • Must comply with our Environmental Guidelines and Requirements of operation of a Temporary Food Stall;
  • Must be a current holder of an Inner West Council Food Vendor License, or be willing to get one;
  • Must be prepared to apply for a Special Event limited licence through Liquor and Gaming NSW;
  • Must comply with Responsible Service of Alcohol Laws, including any required permits for all staff intending to work on the event.
  • Provide own cups that cannot be glass or single use plastic

Selection of vendors is the final decision of Council and no further correspondence will be entered into. Council reserves the right to amend the selection criteria at any time without notice. Incomplete applications may not be considered.

FOOD VENDOR LICENCE: The Food Vendor Licence allows annual and unlimited trading (with approval of the event organiser) at any registered markets or festivals held in the Inner West Local Government area and must be paid directly to the Regulatory Support team.
